もっぱら時代劇俳優として伝説的なまでの人気を博した市川雷蔵が、珍しく現代劇に取り組み、しかも殺し屋を演じるという作品。原作は藤原審爾の『前夜』で、普段は小料理屋の無口な板前だが、裏の顔は名を知られた殺人請負業で生きているという男の話である。暴力団・木村組から敵対するボス・大和田の殺人を2千万円で請け負った主人公・塩沢は競馬場、大和田邸、大和田の妾宅と大和田を狙ったが果たせず、遂に大和田主催のパーティーに芸人として潜入。畳針で一気に刺殺するというあざやかな仕事ぶりをみせる。しかし塩沢の報酬の横取りを狙う者がいた……。ニヒルなキャラクターにぴたりとはまった市川雷蔵の殺し屋ぶりが実に素敵だ。。Jacek Koprowicz, both the writer of the screenplay and the director of the film, has centred ‘Mistyfikacja’ around the questions surrounding Witkacy’s death, creating a story of passion and madness, love and falsehood, perversion and happiness, which often transcend the realms of understanding.
